J.08 Update: Thailand, "the land of smiles"
"The Scholar Ship docked in Thailand from 23 January till 29 January.
We summarily fell in love with the country and all it had to offer. From the historically and culturally rich sites to the amazing warmth and generosity with which the Thai people welcome foreigners, our experiences in this country will likely come to confirm the adage that no one visits Thailand just once.
The academic field programs brought us to such varied locales as Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, the Grand Palace and Reclining Buddha Temple, and Chiang Rai, where we visited Baan Had Bay, a Tai Lue Ethnic Village on the Mekong River. A backpacker's paradise, most everyone also traveled independently in Thailand, from metropolitan Bangkok and Pattaya to the beaches of Phuket, Krabi and Ko Phi Phi in the South and the Buddhist temples of mountainous Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in the North.
With our incredible experiences in Thailand behind us, we are anxiously awaiting India, our next port of call, more than ever."
